Telencephalon

Home Up Deep Telencephalic Regions Cerebrum

The telencephalon is an enormous region of the brain.  The outermost portion of it is the largest... that is the region that grew the most during embryonic development; it is called the cerebrum, or cerebral hemispheres.  Underneath the cerebrum are other telencephalic regions; I refer to these regions as deep telencephalic regions.  Basically, the deep telencephalic regions are all those portions of the brain made from the telencephalic vesicle that are NOT the cerebrum.

We will focus more on the cerebrum than on the deep telencephalic regions.  Your book almost entirely skips over the deep telencephalic regions.   In fact, it only mentions one set of deep telencephalic regions:  the basal ganglia.  I will describe two more regions, the amygdala and hippocampus, as well.
