Lesson 10
Home Up DNA Structure DNA Replication Using our DNA Some Biotechnology Changes in DNA DNA & Cancer

We are now moving on to Chapter 6.  We have skipped the end of Chapter 5, because I did not think that it was important for us now.

Chapter 6 has a lot of information on what DNA is and how it contains genes.  It also goes into more detail than you need on some areas, like on RNA, so we will be picking and choosing sections of Chapter 6 to read.  You should read:

bulletfrom the beginning of Chapter 6 (p. 145) through (and including) all of section 6.1.
bullet6.2.1 describes the basics of DNA replication, but stop at the bottom of page 152-- before the description of the Meselson and Stahl experiment.
bulletin 6.3, read 6.3.1 and the beginning of 6.3.2.   Only pick and choose (skim) sections 6.3.3 and 6.3.4-- they go into way too much detail for our purposes.
bullet6.3.5 describes how the genetic information can contain enough information to code for protein.  You are already doing this in your project from last week.  But this section will help you.
bulletfrom 6.5 (page 170) to the end (including all the biotechnology applications).

    Go ahead and get started.
