Division and Cancer
Home Up

How does all this relate to cancer?

Well, you learned a bit about how cancer cells can be stopped by some chemotherapeutic agents in the last page.  But, that is not the only way that this lesson relates to cancer.

Remember that cancer occurs as cells divide out of control and form tumors.  Cancer cells divide through mitosis.  If we can understand mitosis and how it is controlled, maybe we can stop cancer from occurring!  Next week you will learn about how cells normally control whether or not they divide.  And that will help you to understand some of the ways that scientists are hoping to intervene and stop cancer.
