Useful Links
Home

Here is where you can look to find additional resources that may be helpful to you.  I have tried to organize this list of links into categories... So the inorganic chemistry links will be in a separate category from the organic chemistry links, and both will be in a separate category from cells.

There is one category of links that will have a lot of different information-- whenever I find a website that has many useful pages, typically a website from another course, I'll give you that link under "other excellent websites."  You can look at each of those to see if there is any information within them on whatever topic we are studying at a given time.

STCC Biology Tutoring Website

bullet

Graphing Website made available by the government.  If you want to use this for a best fit line graph, you will need to have "no line" under line thickness and put in the line by hand.

Muscular Dystrophy

and other genetic disorders

bulletMuscular Dystrophy Association of America
bulletA family's web site about their son with Duchenne's MD, it also contains links to the latest news in MD research.
bullet Positive Exposure, a website that has images and videos of people with a variety of genetic diseases or conditions, showing that they are people, first and foremost, and are not defined merely by their condition.
Mendelian Genetics

bulletThe Biology Project from the U of AZ pages, with interactive problems
bullet"Mendel Web"
bulletstraightforward site (less information, though)
bulletMendelian Genetics site with better links along the far left
bulletwebsite that classifies types of genetic disorders based on inheritance
bullet Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man
bulletAbout Gregor Mendel
bulletwebsite with good genetics problems to try out
bulletAmerican Society of Human Genetics
bullet Genetic disease and screening
DNA (& genes)
bulletExcellent gene pages from Genetics Science Learning Center
bulletMy DNA website from UMass.  A website dedicated to helping everyone understand DNA better.
Inorganic Chemistry
bulletThe Periodic Table Online
Organic Chemistry
bulletA very cool site that allows you to view all sorts of molecules in 3-D and allows you to rotate them.  However, you need to have a plug-in called CHIME (free) and either the Mozilla Firefox browser (free) or specific Netscape browser versions on your computer to use it.  If you have a fast computer, go ahead and try this out!
bullet Biochemistry from the Virtually Biology Course
Cells & Cellular Organelles
bulletAnimal Cell
bulletCells Alive!
bulletdon't forget to check out the MIT site for cell biology, too
bulletA cute website that takes you on a tour inside a cell to learn about it.
bulletAbout organelles from the online biology textbook (site has some pretty images)
bulletUniv. of Arkansas cell biology web site (great stuff, but more detail than you need)
bulletDavid Webb's cool pages on plant anatomy has many nice images of plant cells.
Cell Membranes & Transport

bullet Membrane Structure from the MIT site
bulletTransport across membrane (some of the text is too involved, but there are some great animations here)
bulletMembranes and more-- if you follow the links, you will find pages on endocytosis and exocytosis, too.
bulletTransport in the online biology textbook (includes a nice animation of exocytosis)
Enzymes & ATP
bulletATP site from the online biology textbook
Mitosis
bulletUniversity of Arizona Mitosis Tutorial
bulletOnion root tip images from Florida State University (it is a long download if you are over a modem)
bulletCornell mitosis and meiosis site, with lots of images (although those make this slow to view)
bulletShockwave animations of mitosis (really nice, but you need to have or be able to download Shockwave)
Meiosis
bulletFor a pretty good link, go to this meiosis link. It has some word definitions and pictures that will help you, but it has more information in it than you need.
bullet Meiosis and Genetic Recombination
bulletMeiosis Tutorial-- main page
bulletPlant Science 2000: Animation of Meiosis (you have to click the arrow to keep it going)
bullet Lily Anther Meiosis -- microscopic images
Kingdoms

bulletThe three domains (much info about each)
bulletThe Discover Life Website has a lot of nice images, but is not very good at protists.
bullet Tree of Life Web Project is interesting, and has a lot of images.  The names are a bit technical, though.
bulletExploratour, fun site, lots of information, but like a slide show and can take some time
bulletLots about fungus!
bulletProtists:
