Information sheet/PRESENTATION
ASSIGNMENT Paper due: Monday, Presentations: Monday, Choose a particular human genetic disease from the list below. No more than two students can choose the same topic, so let me know as soon as you have chosen.
Some General Guidelines: · You will prepare an informational sheet about one of the above topics. · The fact sheet should be written using language that would be understood by the general public. For example, what you might see in a doctors office. · I have included a sample to give you an idea of what I am looking for (see link at upper left). I chose a fake disorder to write about DHMO Poisoning.
Details (what to include; 10pts each--I look for each of these when I am grading): · Describe the disease what are the symptoms? Age of onset? Etc. · Symptoms of the disease/disorder · How is diagnosis made? What is the current treatment? · A description of the genetic basis of the disease from what you have learned in class and through readings. Use other sources (books, the internet) to elaborate.
· Include figures/artwork/graphics · References – at least three sources of information cited. If use websites, please include author, date and web address. · The fact sheet should be organized · The fact sheet be written using proper English grammar and spelling · The fact sheet should be no longer than 1 page. · Be creative!
More DETAILS: 1. The
information sheet should be no more than 1
pages in length. Please keep it within this
limit. 2. The
font size should be 10 or 12 pt. 3. The
margins should be no smaller than 1/2 inch around, and no larger than 1 inch around. 5. The format can be either a single page information sheet, or a bi or tri-fold pamphlet. 6. Make copies of your information sheet/pamphlet for all of your classmates prior to the presentations on Dec 10th.
