SOCIOLOGY OF AGING :   STYLES IN  LATER  LIFE

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

The course focuses on the aging process in modern society.  It examines how aging affects the social system from a macro and micro perspective.  Scientific study of elders and behavioral patterns will be integrated into a conceptual framework, using a multi-cultural approach to various lifestyles.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES: 

 

* understand the role of the elderly in society and the effects of ageism

* provide the student the opportunity to compare, analyze and evaluate theory and practice in the field of aging

* assist the student to evaluate personal and professional needs of consumer and caregiver

* enable the student to identify the specific competencies required by the multidisciplinary approach to aging and    delivery of service

* provide structured opportunities for students to reflect critically on their experience

 

 

Read Disguised  by Patricia Moore, (a sociological study of class and age) provide students with an analysis of scientific research on aging.   Details provided in complete course syllabus, or by contacting me directly.
