Solving Radical Equations

A radical equation has variables in one or more radicands. To solve radical equations, we use the following steps:

bulletIsolate the radical term on one side
bulletSquare both sides of the equation
bulletSolve the equation
bulletTest the answer(s)

Example:

This equation has no real solution. When we replace x by  -3/7   in the original equation, we will end up with the square root of a negative number.
